Leave the Milk Out — Cait Sìth Scottish Fairy Cat T-Shirt
Rural Myth Co. | Field & Folklore
Leave a saucer out on Samhain.
The fairy cat appreciates good manners.
Some Halloween visitors want candy.
Some want to play tricks.
The Cait Sìth would prefer a little milk, thank you very much.
According to Scottish Highland folklore, this enormous black fairy cat roams the countryside on Samhain night.
With its shaggy black fur and distinctive white chest spot, it’s not exactly your ordinary neighborhood visitor.
The old stories say that households leaving a saucer of milk outside might receive the fairy cat’s blessing.
Those who forgot could find their cows had stopped producing milk.
Which seems a little harsh.
But then again, nobody likes being forgotten at snack time.
Our Leave the Milk Out Cait Sìth shirt depicts a wonderfully round, fluffy black Cait Sìth happily lapping milk from a saucer on a stone cottage doorstep.
Its eyes are closed in contentment.
Beside it glows a traditional carved Scottish turnip lantern—the old-fashioned Halloween lantern from before pumpkins became the usual choice.
A few autumn leaves complete the cozy Samhain scene.
Rendered in Pine Black, Bone, Weathered Orange, and Moss Green, this vintage-inspired illustration combines Scottish folklore with a little supernatural hospitality.
The lettering reads:
