River Bottom Survey
Rural Myth Co. | Field & Folklore
Station 3 dropped a line to measure the river's depth.
The line stopped.
It hadn't reached the bottom.
Somewhere beneath the slow brown water, an ordinary survey became something considerably less ordinary.
River Bottom Survey is a river cryptid shirt that captures the moment a lone field researcher discovers the riverbed isn't quite where the charts say it should be.
At the surface, a small wooden rowboat drifts quietly above the current.
A weighted sounding line descends through layers of murky water, drifting weeds, and sediment.
Far below, the line comes to rest on the enormous, craggy shell of an ancient snapping turtle.
An ancient snapping turtle with two heads.
Both of which are looking up.
The official survey record reads: RIVER BOTTOM SURVEY. STATION 3 — DEPTH UNKNOWN.
And beside the boat, a particularly useful reminder: KEEP HANDS INSIDE THE BOAT.
Rendered in bone, moss green, and pine black, this original Rural Myth Co. design combines vintage scientific illustration with the unsettling mysteries of rural waterways. Available in Grape, Moss, Pepper, Washed Denim, and Espresso.
For cryptid enthusiasts, river explorers, fishermen, and anyone who suspects the deepest part of the river might not actually be the bottom.
The survey remains incomplete.
The crew has declined to return.
