Slide 14 — The Hilltop
Rural Myth Co. | Field & Folklore
Every family has a box of old photographs.
Some should probably stay in the box.
Our Slide 14 — The Hilltop Flatwoods monster shirt recreates a faded 1950s color transparency from a family slide carousel.
The cardboard mount is stamped:
SLIDE 14 · SEPT. ’52
Inside the photograph, a dark wooded hilltop rises against the night.
A strange red light glows near the ground.
Beside it stands a tall figure with an unusually broad hood and two glowing eyes.
The photograph is blurry.
The exposure is poor.
And someone has written a note in pencil along the bottom:
the hilltop — don’t show Mom
Sound advice, probably.
Inspired by the mysterious events associated with West Virginia’s Flatwoods folklore, this original design takes a personal, archival approach to one of America’s strangest reported encounters.
No movie-poster theatrics.
No dramatic headlines.
Just an old photograph, a handwritten warning, and the uncomfortable possibility that somebody in the family knows more than they’re saying.
Rendered in Bone, Fog Gray, Moss Green, Rust Red, and Pine Black, the artwork captures the faded colors, cardboard texture, and unsettling atmosphere of an old family slide.
