Storm Vane
Rural Myth Co. | Field & Folklore
On most barns, the weathervane points into the wind.
On this one, it points at the house.
Storm Vane is a rural gothic weathervane shirt inspired by the old rural tradition of watching the sky and reading the weather before it arrives.
For generations, farm families relied on simple signs.
The direction of the wind.
The behavior of the animals.
The movement of the clouds.
And the weathervane above the barn.
But this particular weathervane has something unusual perched on top.
Not a rooster.
Not a horse.
A tall, winged figure cut from black iron.
Its wings are ragged.
Its body is unnaturally thin.
And although the arrow still points into the wind, the figure has turned to face the farmhouse.
Two tiny red eyes stare through the gathering storm.
Below the barn roof, two pine trees bend in the wind.
The warning beneath the illustration is simple:
STAY IN TONIGHT
Rendered in Pine Black with two small Rust Red eyes, this original design combines antique American folk-metalwork with the quiet dread of rural gothic folklore.
Part of the Field & Folklore Collection from Rural Myth Co.
For lovers of dark Americana, rural legends, antique farm imagery, and anyone who knows that sometimes the weather isn’t the only thing worth watching.
The wind has changed.
The weathervane has noticed.
You should probably close the curtains.
