West Loch Bird List — Boobrie Scottish Folklore T-Shirt
Rural Myth Co. | Field & Folklore
Three birds ticked.
One left blank, on purpose.
Birdwatching is generally considered a peaceful hobby.
A little fresh air.
A quiet walk along the loch.
Perhaps a nice cup of tea afterward.
Unless you’re birdwatching in Argyll.
Then things can get considerably more interesting.
According to Scottish folklore, the Boobrie is an enormous water bird that inhabits the lochs of western Scotland.
It has a bellow like a bull, a heavy hooked bill, and an unfortunate tendency to carry off sheep and calves from the shoreline.
Which makes it a rather unusual addition to the local bird list.
Our West Loch Bird List birdwatching shirt presents a vintage birdwatcher’s checklist.
The observations are straightforward:
☑ GREY HERON
☑ EIDER
☑ CURLEW
And then:
☐ BOOBRIE — DO NOT TICK FROM CLOSE RANGE
Above the checklist, a small pencil-style illustration depicts a peaceful Scottish sea loch.
A grey heron stands quietly in the shallows.
Behind it looms the enormous dark silhouette of a long-necked water bird.
The heron appears unconcerned.
The birdwatcher, presumably, has already started walking backward.
Rendered in Pine Black, Bone, Mustard, and Tobacco Brown, this vintage-inspired design combines Scottish folklore with the sort of practical field advice that rarely appears in ordinary birdwatching guides.
Part of the Field & Folklore Collection from Rural Myth Co.
