Work Order No. 0788 — Lizard Man Auto Body
Rural Myth Co. | Field & Folklore
The body shop wrote it all down.
The insurance company wasn’t having it.
Our Work Order No. 0788 Lizard Man shirt takes inspiration from the legendary 1988 Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp encounter in South Carolina.
The story involves a teenager, a damaged vehicle, and an explanation that was apparently difficult to put into words.
We decided the incident deserved proper paperwork.
The artwork recreates a vintage 1980s carbon-copy repair invoice from a fictional body shop:
SWAMP ROAD AUTO BODY
WORK ORDER No. 0788
The repair descriptions are unusually specific:
SIDE MIRROR — CHEWED
ROOF — SCRATCHED (3 CLAWS)
CAUSE: CUSTOMER WOULD NOT SAY
A small pencil sketch documents the damage.
One bent mirror.
Three long scratches across the roof.
And absolutely no useful explanation from the customer.
Then comes the insurance company’s final determination:
CLAIM DENIED: ACT OF SWAMP
Which, to be fair, probably isn’t covered under most standard auto policies.
Rendered in Pine Black, Rust Red, Moss Green, and Bone, the design captures the bureaucratic absurdity of cryptid encounters with a healthy appreciation for vintage repair-shop paperwork.
Part of the Field & Folklore Collection from Rural Myth Co.
Perfect for cryptid enthusiasts, South Carolina folklore fans, vintage automotive collectors, insurance professionals, mechanics, roadside legend enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever tried to explain an unusual claim to an adjuster.
CLAIM DENIED: ACT OF SWAMP
Some exclusions are apparently very specific.
A delightfully questionable repair record from Rural Myth Co.
Available in Brick, Grape, Moss, Pepper, Washed Denim, and Espresso.
